The 2009 London Bike Polo Tournament Final
Last weekend I had the pleasure of traveling to London for the Bicycle Film Festival and the accompanying Bike Polo Tournament. In advance of a longer post, I thought you might enjoy watching a video of the final game in the tournament:
For sure. I was really pulling for the Netto guys. They are super nice dudes, plus they played so well...I really thought they deserved the championship!
Still, hats off to BAD POLO. They some bad muthas.
I don't know how I feel about "goaltending." It kinda feels like cheating, but I suppose the benefits are that one team member can rest while the others play and it's really not much different than normal play when the goal area gets crowded. But it does snuff out full court shots.
Sure. But goal tending is optional, not required. Plus, it's not very effective. I'd say not even half the shots made are blocked by the bike/goal keeper.
So actually, I think it's kind of a risk for a team to keep one player in the goal. Not to mention you can always abandon the goal in favor of the three person full court press. Now thats when it gets exciting!
DAYUM that backward pass around 1:03 is nice!
